Halters can be made from leather, vinyl, ribbon or thread. Some are decorated with elaborate metal plates, beads, silver, precious gems, and paint.
If you give halter making a go, find several photos of the breed you are working on warring show standard halters. A good place to find this is by going to a local tack or farm store and finding a breed based magazine such as "The Quarter Horse Journal" if you are working on a stock horse breed. Arabian halters are fun, creative and elaborate at times. I suggest giving them a try, you may be surprised at what you can turn out with a little time and patients.
